The technology behind the OV-chipkaart is due for replacement. That’s why we’re switching to OVpay. This means checking in and out with the new OV-pas or your payment card. With it, you can travel throughout the Netherlands by train, bus, tram and metro. In the same way you’re used to: hold your card up to the reader and you’re good to go! The OV-pas and the payment card are replacing the OV-chipkaart.

NS season ticket or student travel product?

Do you have an NS season ticket or a student travel product? In that case, keep using your OV-chipkaart for now. Do you travel with a different season ticket or travel product? On ovpay.nl you can check whether you can already switch to OVpay.

An OV-chipkaart expires after five years. There could still be credit on it at that time. Of course you can apply for a refund. After all, it’s your money.
