OVpay. The new way of checking in and out

Check in and out with your debit card, credit card or mobile. In the bus, tram, metro and train.

How it works

Simply hold your contactless debit or credit card, or mobile up to the card reader or gate and – beep! – you’ve checked in. When you arrive at your destination, check out the same way. It’s that easy. It’s just like using your contactless card in the supermarket, but with one difference: you must check out at your destination! To ensure you use the right card, take the one you want out of your wallet.

The payment is processed automatically; You’ll see the amount with the description NLOV on your statement the next day. The price you pay will be the same as a standard ticket or trip with the OV-chipkaart without subscriptions or discounts.

Do you want to review your travel itinerary from a previous day? Enter the 14-digit code that appears on your bank statement next to NLOV into the web tool. As well as the price that was debited from your account.

Before you check in

  • Make sure you have sufficient funds in your bank account.
  • Got a brand new debit or credit card? You have to use it in a shop at least once before you can use it in public transport.
  • Before you travel, check if your debit or credit card is compatible with OVpay.
  • Transferring between different modes of transportation, like from train to metro? Always check out and then check in again before transferring to your next mode of transportation. Exactly like you've been doing with your OV-chipkaart.

Good to know

  • You choose whether you want to use OVpay. You can also still check in and out with your OV-chipkaart, e-ticket or paper ticket.
  • At the moment you can only travel with OVpay without a subscription and in 2nd class.
  • Do you pay for your dog or bicycle with your carrier? Then use your OV-chipkaart or buy a ticket via your carrier.
  • Children can check in and out with OVpay if they have their own debit card. Children up to 4 years old travel for free.
