What is personal data?
Personal data refers to any information that can be directly traced back to an individual. Examples include your name, address, date of birth, and bank account number. Your OV-chipkaart number or username can also be considered personal data.
Why does Translink process data?
Translink processes data to provide the following services:
- Production, distribution, termination, and replacement of the OV-chipkaart.
- Responding to customer service requests, such as blocking a personal OV-chipkaart in case of loss or theft.
- Enabling the use of public transport travel history, for example, through My OV-chip.
- Loading and managing credit on OV-chipkaarts.
- Processing transactions, such as check-in and check-out activities.
- Refunding remaining credit to your last known bank account after your OV-chipkaart expires.
- Storing, for a maximum of 5 years after an OV-chipkaart expires, the minimum data necessary to prove that we have refunded the remaining credit.
- Debtor management to collect payments for transactions made.
Please note:
Translink only processes the personal data necessary for these purposes. We do not use your data for marketing purposes, nor will we send you offers for products or services.
Translink also processes data for fraud management, including prevention, detection, and combating fraud. This is done based on our legitimate interest as a company.

What are your rights?
