Travelling with one ticket

The OV-chipkaart is the ticket for public transport in the Netherlands. If you carry an OV-chipkaart with you, you will no longer need to think about strip tickets or metro and train tickets. You can travel on trains, trams, buses and metros with a single ticket.

Did you know that when you are travelling on credit and transferring within 35 minutes you only pay basic fare once?
Did you know that children, passengers over 65 and groups travel at discounted fares because of their age?

Load before travel

You will need to load the card before you start your journey. You can do this with money, which means you will be travelling on credit and will pay per kilometre travelled. Or you can do it with a travel product, such as a season ticket for commuting or a discount ticket for offpeak travel.

Not checked out?

You did not check out. Because the card reader was not working or you forgot, for example. In this case your travel costs will not be calculated correctly as your remaining boarding fare will not be returned. You will therefore have paid too much.
