Card with student travel product lost, broken or expired?

If your card with student travel product is lost, broken or expired, please report this as soon as possible. Your card will then be blocked. This way you are protected against misuse. You can do this easily through your My OV-chip account. You can block, replace or terminate your card and apply for a credit refund. Your student travel product and automatic reloading will be transferred to your replacement card.

Card lost?

You can block your card and quickly apply for a new card in a few simple steps:

1. report your card lost/stolen through your My OV-chip account;

2. your card will be blocked;

3. apply for a replacement card straight away. This costs € 11 and you will pay using iDEAL;

4. you will receive your replacement card within an average of three working days. Your student travel product will be loaded onto this replacement card;

5. apply for a temporary student travel product (new window);

6. within an hour you can pick up your student travel product from a pick-up device and travel again;

7. we will return your credit to your bank account within 15 days.

Card broken?

Check that your card is really broken

You can check whether your card is really broken or if there is another problem in a few steps:

1. check that there is enough credit on your OV-chipkaart at a pick-up device. If not, load credit at a device;

2. check whether you forgot to check out too many times. You can do this at a counter for the operator you checked in and out with most recently. They can often help you there, so you can continue to travel.

3. do you have automatic reloading on your card? Your credit may have been temporarily blocked because the failed collections have not been paid. Or because your debt amounts to more than € 60. You can find out how to pay this and remove the block here.

Card definitely broken?

You can report this in a few simple steps and easily apply for a replacement card. If OV-chipkaart Customer Services discovers that the card has broken through no fault of your own, you will not have to pay the purchase price of € 11.

1. report your card as broken through your My OV-chip account;

2. your card will be blocked;

3. apply for a replacement card straight away. This card costs € 11 and you will pay using iDEAL.

Has your card expired?

Your personal OV-chipkaart is valid for five years. You can renew this card online. You will pay € 7,50 for this. You will receive the credit on your old card in your bank account within 15 days of your card expiring. You will receive your new card to your home address within six working days. The student travel product, other passes and automatic reloading will be transferred from your old card to your new card. You can continue to travel with your old card until the date it is no longer valid. After this you can use your new card.
