If you use public transport on a regular basis the personal OV-chipkaart offers many advantages. Discounts based on your travel frequency are automatically applied, personal products, such as season or discount tickets can be loaded to your personal OV-chipkaart and you are automatically eligible for discounts on the basis of your personal data, for example senior citizen (65+) discount. You can select to autoreload your personal OV-chipkaart, view and download transaction statements online and, in the event of theft or loss, you can request that your card be blocked. A personal OV-chipkaart is valid for 5 years.

Do you use the public transport system every once in a while? Would you like to be able to share the OV-chipkaart with other family members? Would you prefer to avoid the registration of your personal data by the public transport companies? The anonymous OV-chipkaart is, in any of these cases, the best choice. This OV-chipkaart allows you to travel in complete anonymity. This does mean that you cannot take advantage of any personal discounts, such as discounts based on age limits. The anonymous OV-chipkaart can be bought at the ticket office and vending machines at the station. These cards allow the holder to travel immediately. An anonymous OV-chipkaart is valid for 4 to 5 years.

Will you travel by public transport only once in a while, or are you entertaining foreign guests for a few days? In that case, the disposable card is a practical choice. It can be bought at the (bus) station. After usage, the card cannot be reloaded and can be thrown away. The disposable card can be purchased in much the same way as you used to buy a train ticket before: per journey or combination journey, for example, 5 same-day return journeys or an OV day card.
